Mr Charles Parchment from the Cayman Islands Government Office in London is leading the charge for the Cayman Islands involvement in the 11th EU Funding programme for the Caribbean, and attended important meetings relating to the launch of the programme. (CP TO CONFIRM EXPAND).
The sector chosen for the Caribbean Regional Funding Programme under the 11th EDF is Sustainable Energy and Marine Biodiversity for the Caribbean OCTs. A total budget of 40 Million Euros has been reserved for this program through the EU. The programme for Sustainable Energy will address the issues of high energy cost, and a vulnerability to climate change (a direct result of carbon based technologies) and provide viable recommendations for the Caribbean OCTs. The programme for Marine Biodiversity will address the degradation of the coastal areas through the sustainable management and use of the marine and coastal environment, by engaging neighbouring countries in comprehensive and specific actions to protect their shared marine environment.
