David Wells of the West India Committee made a trip to the Cayman Islands this month to further research the historical heritage project commissioned by the Cayman Islands Government.

Mr Wells visited the Cayman Islands National Museum, the National Gallery and made many historical stops including a trip to Cayman Brac to get as much information about the history of the islands first hand to add to the heritage project for the Cayman Islands.

During his trip Mr Wells visited:

  • George Town (including Fort George, Heroes square etc)
  • The National Museum
  • The Turtle Farm
  • Hell
  • Seven Mile Beach
  • Cayman Brac (including the Cayman Brac Museum, the Culture House, meeting some of the locals and seeing the sights)
  • The National Archives
  • The Seafarers Association

Mr Wells commented:

“It was an absolute pleasure to visit the islands at last and everyone I met was very helpful. I would like to thank everyone in the Cabinet Office, the staff at the National Archive, the National Museum and the people of Cayman Brac for all their kindness. My visit allowed me to confirm several facts and develop my arguments, gave me new avenues of research to consider, provided the opportunity to take some very useful pictures for future publications and allowed me to escape from the rain and cold of Britain for a week!”
