Applying for a UK Student Visa

Students who are not British and who wish to study in the United Kingdom must apply for a Student visa through the UK Government. Applications are made online and are assessed by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

(NOTE: If you do not yet hold a British passport but believe you may be automatically entitled to British citizenship, please contact us to discuss further.)

Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)

As a first step, prospective university students must obtain a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from their chosen UK education provider.

A CAS is a unique reference number issued by a UK university or licensed education provider, confirming that an unconditional offer has been made for an eligible UK course and that the education provider agrees to sponsor the student for the purposes of their Student visa.

A CAS is required before a Student visa application can be submitted and is entered as part of the online application process.

Students should contact their university directly for information on how and when their CAS will be issued.

Visa Application Process

Once a CAS has been issued, students may proceed with their Student visa application via the UK Government website. The application process includes:

  • completing the online application form;
  • paying the visa application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge;
  • submitting biometric information; and
  • providing supporting documentation as required by UKVI.
  • Full, up-to-date guidance on eligibility, required documents, fees, and processing times
  • is available on the UK Government website:
