ABOUT THE MINISTRY OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE, INVESTMENT, AVIATION & MARITIME AFFAIRS
In January 2019, the Cayman Islands Government formed a new Ministry of International Trade, Investment, Aviation and Maritime Affairs (MITIAMA). MITIAMA is the central Government entity responsible for monitoring and enhancing external relationships as well as identifying and attracting international trade and investment to the Cayman Islands.
Premier Alden McLaughlin’s announcement of MITIAMA
MITIAMA’s purpose is to:
- Enhance the reputation of the Cayman Islands;
- Advance the economic and political interests of the Government, the people and the business community, and;
- To make Cayman’s economy easier to do business with, including acting as a single doorway for potential foreign direct investment.
Initially MITIAMA is directly responsible for a limited range of existing Government Departments and entities and is, more broadly, charged with coordinating the jurisdiction’s activities internationally though many of those activities themselves will remain with existing Ministries.
Chief Officer of the Ministry of International Trade
Mr Eric Bush JP has been appointed Chief Officer of the Ministry of International Trade, Investment, Aviation and Maritime Affairs and is charged with leading the Ministry including overseas offices from January 2019.
